The Oylegate NS Newsletter - Halloween 2014
Principal's Note
The building project is tipping along nicely. I was inside recently and the radiators have been put up. The electricians are installing the sockets and light switches, and the ceiling looks ready to be slabbed. It's great to see the scaffolding coming down and it's a real symbol of the continuing progress.
The Oylegate NS school community is doing great fundraising at the moment, and the support from the people of Oylegate is much appreciated.
Some of the events are:
- Bake Sale on Friday
- Raffle
- Halloween Disco on Sunday (€5 entrance, free refreshments, 2-4 pm)
- Fashion Show
Happy Halloween!
Student Council
The first meeting of the Student Council was held recently. The purpose behind the Student Council is to give children an input into the decisions made by the school. The Student Council members were elected by their classmates after a hard-fought election campaign!
Clothes for Cash
Many thanks to everybody who contributed a bag of clothing to our Clothes for Cash campaign.
We raised €900 towards the development of the field.
Please keep any other clothes you might be getting rid of for us as we will running a similar event in the near future.
Congratulations to Anna Nolan who competed at the World Kickboxing Championships recently.
She did very well to reach the quarter final stage.
Congratulations
Ms. Sidney
Congratulations to Ms. Sidney on the birth of her son Oliver!
Fashion Show
Keep your diary free for a fashion show on Tuesday 18th November in the Ferrycarrig Hotel!
Tickets will be on sale after the mid-term for €10.
The Field/Car Park
The Board of Management is currently applying for planning permission for the field that we have purchased. Planning permission is necessary because of the change of usage. Once we have planning permission then we can begin transforming it into a car park.
Some photos from last year's Halloween Dress Up Day!
Cryptography
As part of Maths Week, 6th class held a a cryptography workshop and invited parents and children. Ciphers such as the Caesar Cipher, the Pig Pen cipher, and the Rail Fence cipher were explained. They also showed how to break a code using the Frequency Analysis method.
No Half Day Tomorrow!
Just a reminder that school will close as usual tomorrow at 3pm.
